Surrendering Pain
Your word tells us:
Surrender yourself to the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Do not be preoccupied with [an evildoer] who succeeds in his way when he carries out his schemes. Let go of anger, and leave rage behind. Do not be preoccupied. It only leads to evil. Evildoers will be cut off [from their inheritance], but those who wait with hope for the LORD will inherit the land.
Psalm 37:7-9
So I want you to take this time right now to think of that hurt, that pain, and the person that has hurt you. And tell God right now how they have hurt you. Name your hurt. And let God hear your heart.
Speak to God like you would a best friend and pour out yourself.
Now ask God to take that hurt from your body, heart, and soul. God can help file away at the anger, resentment, or anything that is causing you pain. Surrender yourself now to God’s ever perfect love and grace, the same grace that God gives us every day, sometimes without us even knowing it. We take this time to let go of the pain we have held inside, to find freedom in God’s love.
In your mind, when you are ready, say to yourself:
I surrender my pain to you, God.
Now whisper:
I surrender my pain to you, God.
Now speak out loud:
I surrender my pain to you, God.
Confidently, as if you believe it:
I surrender my pain to you, God.
Mighty Healer, we come to you in this moment and ask for you to take away our pain, our hurt, and our shattered hearts. Lift our burdened bodies and let our bruises be healed by Your spirit. The anger that we feel welling up inside us at the most unexpected times, the flashbacks to an event, and the resentment felt afterwards, Spirit, take it from us. We are so tired. Tired of feeling hate, so we surrender our aching souls to you. We ask that you heal our hearts and fill it with your love, your grace, your mercy, and your peace. When we feel that pain coming back, let us say again, I surrender my pain to you. I rest in you. For nothing is impossible for you.
Amen.
