Loving Yourself as God Does: A Meditation
As we center our hearts, I’d like you to do some visualization with me. I want you to envision God, the Spirit, your higher power, sitting in front of you.
What would it look like if God smiled at you with great love and compassion, accepting you exactly as you are? Understand that God doesn’t want you to fix anything about yourself to deserve their love. Know that God wants you to accept yourself exactly as you are, and treat yourself with kindness and respect. That is how much God loves the imperfect, beautiful human you are.
Can you accept this love? That even through failure, even through hills and valleys, God says you are worthy. And not only are you worthy,
God can use what you perceive as failure to give you great wisdom.
Lord, we come to you in confession today. We have to confess that we are not always the best at adulting. We try to keep the deadlines and to to be as kind as possible. We try to do our job well, to love our friends and family with all we have, but sometimes fail. Sometimes we aren’t as kind as we should be. Sometimes we are just tired. Yet you still love us, and you love us with an infinite, never ending, grand kind of love. A love that knows NO bounds.
We ask that you let this love be embodied through us in word and deed. So today in prayer we lift these people up to you as we same their names aloud as a community of faith…
God of no borders, help us put our wisdom to use. To go out and preach the good news to the poor, to the widow, and to the orphan. To speak peace to our neighbor. In community we ask you to give us the strength to use our wisdom to help others. In your everlasting grace,
Amen.
